Timothee Chalamet Already Worried About TikTok Roasting His Accent

Timothée Chalamet has often spoken proudly about his French roots, but his bilingual identity has also become a source of online commentary. The Marty Supreme star has occasionally faced criticism for the subtle American inflection in his French speech — something he recently addressed with candid honesty.

Raised in New York City, Chalamet naturally developed a fluent American accent. However, with French heritage on his father’s side and frequent childhood summers spent in France, he also became comfortable speaking French from a young age.

During a recent interview on French television, the actor acknowledged that while he is fluent in both languages, he sometimes blends English words into his French conversations. This linguistic crossover has drawn attention online, often resulting in playful — and sometimes critical — reactions.

Addressing the trolling directly, Chalamet admitted that he is aware of the viral clips mocking his speech. He shared that he now anticipates social media reactions whenever he speaks, imagining how snippets of his interviews might circulate on platforms like TikTok.

Despite the online chatter, Chalamet is currently celebrating a major milestone in his career. At the upcoming Academy Awards, he has received a Best Actor nomination for his role in Marty Supreme. At 30, this marks his third nomination in the category — a rare achievement that places him among the youngest actors to reach this milestone since Marlon Brando in 1954.

Chalamet has also extended his record of appearing in eight films nominated for Best Picture. Notably, he is the youngest performer ever to receive nominations for both acting and producing in the same year.

A win this year would place him among elite company. He could become the second-youngest Best Actor winner after Adrien Brody, who secured the award at 29.

Recently, Chalamet attended the annual Oscars nominees’ luncheon in Beverly Hills, joining fellow nominees and industry figures ahead of the ceremony.

Set in the 1950s, Marty Supreme follows the journey of table tennis player Marty Mauser as he pursues a world championship title. Directed by Josh Safdie, the film has earned nine nominations this year, further cementing Chalamet’s standing as one of Hollywood’s most prominent young talents.
