In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif shared his thoughts on celebrities performing at high-profile weddings and recalled an incident that changed his outlook entirely. The Hum Tum actor revealed that he once performed at a wedding in Mumbai, only to be confronted backstage by his aunt—his father’s sister—who was far from impressed.
Recalling the moment, Saif said, “I was dancing at a wedding once in Bombay and my aunt, my father’s sister, who is quite a regal lady, came backstage and said, ‘Don’t tell me you are dancing at this wedding.’” The encounter left a lasting impact on him, and he admitted that the embarrassment played a role in his decision to stop performing at such events.
That said, Saif clarified that he doesn’t judge others for doing so. According to him, if an actor truly sees themselves as an entertainer and doesn’t have a family member “to humiliate them,” then there’s nothing wrong with dancing at weddings. However, he did point out that such performances should be done on a proper platform that clearly distinguishes celebrities from guests, allowing them to retain their star aura.
Saif also touched upon a larger issue within the industry—overexposure. He believes that frequent public appearances and constant visibility can dilute a star’s appeal. “People are not surprised to see film actors anymore,” he noted. He added that he admires actors like Ajay Devgn, who maintain a more private life. According to Saif, that sense of distance makes audiences more curious and excited to watch them on screen, turning mystery into a valuable currency.
