Diversifying one’s financial portfolio is a practice particularly embraced by actors in the high-risk, high-reward entertainment industry. Ranbir Kapoor too has been thoughtful in his investment strategies, and recently, to further broaden his portfolio, he introduced his fashion brand, ARKS. During a recent interview, Ranbir provided a tour of his factory and discussed the philosophy and future aspirations of his enterprise. Although some netizens speculated that ARKS might be an acronym derived from the names of his wife, Alia Bhatt, and daughter, Raha Kapoor, Ranbir clarified that this is not the origin of the brand’s name.
Ranbir shared a video on the brand’s YouTube channel, in which he provided a tour of his factory and responded to questions about the brand. He revealed that the factory is, in fact, owned by his brother-in-law, Bharat Sahni. He introduced him as “the amazing Bharat” and said, “He is a gem of a guy. He was kind enough to actually let us borrow his space. He is a big part of ARKS’ story because he’s one of our manufacturers for one of our products.”
Ever since Ranbir launched ARKS, there has been speculation among fans and on social media regarding whether the name is an acronym for something. Many initially thought it might be a tribute to his wife, Alia Bhatt, or perhaps a gift for his daughter, Raha, but it seems these assumptions are incorrect. When questioned about the name, Ranbir said, “It had different meanings to it. We started with a shoe, so at first it was ‘A Ranbir Kapoor Shoe’. Later it was ‘Ranbir Kapoor Studio’, but at one point I realised that it doesn’t really need a meaning. I think it just fit. When we heard ARKS and saw the logo, everything just came together.”
Talking about his fashion choices, Ranbir shared, “As I grow older, my desire for material things is growing lesser. You always need a t-shirt or a denim jacket because you can wear it at any time. That’s where I come in with ARKS. But the plan is to really expand in different areas of lifestyle, which could be athleisure or underwear. I am also interested in the whole furniture market. So under the umbrella of ARKS, I think we’re really trying to sell a sensibility, an aesthetic. A lifestyle for the consumer.”
Ranbir is set to appear in two films in 2026: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.
