Having steadily built a diverse filmography across industries, Malavika Mohanan has chosen roles that reflect range and reinvention. From her Malayalam debut in Pattam Pole to her internationally noted performance in Beyond the Clouds, and mainstream commercial entertainers like Master, Maaran, and Christy, she has balanced content-driven cinema with large-scale productions. Each project has showcased a different facet of her screen presence be it intense drama, romance, or action positioning her as an actor unafraid to step into varied cinematic territories.
While audiences often see her amidst grand film sets and high-energy shoots, Malavika recently revealed a much quieter, deeply personal side of her life. Recently, she opened up about how photography and time spent in nature have become her sanctuary away from the chaos of cinema.
“Photography started as a very personal journey in 2019. When I’m working on sets, I’m around 300 to 400 people on average. So whenever I get time off, it is meditative to go into a forest; no people, just calm,” she shared. Malavika further explained that living in a fast-paced city like Mumbai makes it even more important for her to disconnect from the constant rush. Immersing herself in forests and natural landscapes offers her a rare sense of stillness a space where she can pause, reflect, and creatively recharge beyond the pressures of her profession.
She concluded the conversation on a thoughtful note, saying, “The more I grow up, the more I realise how crucial that connection is. It impacts your mental health and your overall balance.”
As she continues to explore meaningful cinema, Malavika is currently working on the much-anticipated film Pocket Novel with Vijay Sethupathi and Sardar 2 with Karthi, further expanding her line-up. Even as she navigates ambitious new projects, her bond with wildlife and forests remains her grounding force a reminder that amidst the arc lights and applause, stillness is her greatest luxury.
