Mumbai court has temporarily restrained YouTuber Ajey Nagar, also known as CarryMinati, along with talent manager Deepak Char and others, from posting or sharing any defamatory content against filmmaker Karan Johar on social media. The order was issued by Principal Sessions Judge PG Bhonsale on February 9 after Johar moved court through Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions.

In his plea, Johar alleged that certain statements made in the influencersโ YouTube videos were defamatory and damaging to his reputation. The petition stated, โThe statements are so vulgar and abusive that they immediately needs to be taken down.โ While Nagarโs side argued that the videos had already been removed and therefore there was no reason for Johar to approach the court, the filmmaker countered that the content had already reached a massive audience.
Johar further submitted that even though the original videos were taken down, the issue had not ended. โUnknown persons are making reels of it and again circulating it in the social media,โ he argued, pointing out that the clips had been viewed by millions. After hearing the matter, the court observed that prima facie, Nagar and Char appeared to have made defamatory remarks and used vulgar language against Johar.
ย
Calling it a fit case for urgent relief, the court said, โThese videos need to be taken down immediately. There should be injunction against all those who circulate and re-circulate these videos on the social media platform. This is fit case to pass ad-interim injunction orders against the defendants.โ The court also directed Meta Platforms to remove the flagged video links and restrained not just the named individuals but also unknown persons from reposting or circulating similar defamatory content until Karan Joharโs interim relief plea is finally decided.
