Ajith Kumar’s cult classic Mankatha has returned to theatres, and fans have been celebrating its re-release with unstoppable enthusiasm. However, what began as nostalgic excitement has now taken a concerning turn. Following reports of fan altercations inside cinemas, a theatre in Tamil Nadu has officially called out Ajith fans for destructive behaviour during the film’s special screenings.
The 2011 blockbuster was re-released to packed houses, with fans flocking to relive Ajith’s iconic performance on the big screen. Social media has been filled with clips of cheering crowds, dancing in aisles, and deafening applause. But alongside the celebrations, disturbing videos have also surfaced — including one showing a clash between Ajith and Vijay fans inside a theatre. Now, a fresh controversy has emerged as theatre management revealed that property damage occurred during the screenings.
Pandian Cinemas in Karaikudi took to their official Instagram page to address the situation and express serious concern over fan behaviour. In a strongly worded statement, the theatre said they have always aimed to create a joyful atmosphere where fans can celebrate cinema freely — cheering, dancing, and expressing their love for films. They acknowledged that fan enthusiasm is what makes cinema culture special, but emphasized that there must be limits.
The statement revealed that their theatre screen was damaged due to “unacceptable behaviour” inside the premises. They warned that while celebrations are welcome, destruction of theatre property is strictly unacceptable. Such incidents, they noted, lead to financial losses, disrupted shows, and inconvenience to other moviegoers.
The management concluded with a firm message: “NO MORE mashups and ‘Once More’ celebrations during the Mankatha re-release. Cinema is an emotion; respect is a responsibility.” The note has since gone viral, sparking debate online — with many fans supporting the theatre’s stance and urging others to celebrate responsibly.
Mankatha remains one of Ajith Kumar’s most iconic films. The crime thriller follows Vinayak Mahadevan, a suspended police officer who joins a gang planning a daring heist involving illegal betting money. His sharp mind, shifting loyalties, and cunning gameplay form the heart of the narrative, eventually earning him the unforgettable title of “Kingmaker.”
The film features an ensemble cast including Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Raai Laxmi, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Vaibhav, Ashwin Kakumanu, and Premji Amaren. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, Mankatha was originally released on August 31, 2011, to critical acclaim and massive box office success. At the time, it became the second-biggest opening Tamil film after Enthiran.
While the re-release has proven Ajith’s enduring star power, the latest incidents serve as a reminder that cinema celebrations must come with responsibility — not chaos.
