Border 2, the much-awaited war drama, is gearing up for a theatrical release nearly 30 years after the original Border left a lasting impact. Ahead of its release, reports suggest that the film has a lengthy runtime of 3 hours and 19 minutes, making it only slightly shorter than Dhurandhar, which recently ran for 3 hours and 34 minutes. While this information is doing the rounds, an official confirmation from the makers is still pending. Featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, the film has already sparked strong curiosity among audiences.
As per a Bollywood Hungama report, the distributors are pushing for an aggressive release strategy. Single screen cinemas have reportedly been requested to dedicate all their shows to Border 2 for two straight weeks after release, especially to take advantage of the Republic Day weekend rush. Multiplexes too are said to be on board, with four screen properties being asked to run 14 shows, five screen cinemas 16 shows, six screen theatres 18 shows, and venues with seven or more screens playing the film up to 20 times during this period.
A source familiar with the release plan shared, “Border 2 is 3 hours and 19 minutes long. This means that the gap between the two shows in most cinemas would be four hours. Assuming 4 shows of Border 2 are played daily, one can say that even three-screen cinemas will allot all shows to Border 2 and to no other film, provided they follow the directive.” The extended runtime is clearly influencing how cinemas are planning their daily schedules.
Alongside its male leads, Border 2 also boasts a strong female cast including Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, Medha Rana and Anya Singh. There is also buzz around possible appearances by Suniel Shetty, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Akshaye Khanna, though no official word has confirmed this yet. Advance bookings have reportedly opened on a promising note, with solid ticket sales across major multiplex chains. Riding on the legacy of the original and the appeal of its ensemble cast, Border 2 is set to arrive in theatres on January 23.
