Sunny Deol continues his strong box office run with Border 2, which has shown impressive momentum in its opening weekend. Released on January 23, 2026, the Anurag Singh-directed war drama arrived just ahead of the Republic Day holidays, a timing that has worked firmly in its favour. Within two days of release, the film has already amassed around Rs 65 crore, putting it on course to cross the Rs 70 crore milestone early in its theatrical run.
The film, written by J.P. Dutta and serving as a sequel to his 1997 classic Border, opened to a robust response on Friday and registered further growth on Saturday. According to early estimates, Border 2 earned approximately Rs 30 crore on its first day across India. Day two saw an upward trend, with collections jumping to nearly Rs 35 crore, reflecting strong audience interest and steady word of mouth.
Backed by a large ensemble cast featuring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty alongside Sunny Deol, the film has appealed to viewers looking for a big-screen patriotic spectacle. The genre, scale and emotional undertones have played a key role in drawing crowds to theatres, particularly over the long holiday weekend.

Occupancy figures on Saturday paint a promising picture. While morning shows opened on a moderate note, attendance picked up significantly by afternoon. Evening and night shows witnessed the highest footfall, pushing overall Hindi occupancy to over 41 percent for the day. This upward curve suggests that the film is benefiting from positive audience reception as the day progresses.
With a two-day total of Rs 65 crore, Border 2 has officially become Sunny Deol’s fourth highest-grossing film, surpassing Yamla Pagla Deewana. The actor’s top three earners remain Gadar 2, Jaat and Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. If the current pace continues, trade experts believe Border 2 could soon challenge the films ranked above it, reaffirming Deol’s enduring box office pull in large-scale, patriotic cinema.
