Legendary superstar Dharmendra is no more and its indeed a sad day for the industry and fans of Hindi cinema and the actor. The yesteryear superstar – who would have turned 90 years old on December 8, passed away today at his Mumbai home. Dharmendra & His Big Family
Dharmendra was born on December 8, 1935, in Punjab’s Nasrali village in Ludhiana district. The actor – named Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol at birth, belonged to a Jat Sikh family and was the son of a government school headmaster, Kewal Kishan Singh Deol and a stay-at-home mother, Satwant Kaur. As per reports, the actor was deeply religious not just as a kid but throughout his life.

Dharmendra, Prakash Kaur and family
Dharmendra married Prakash Kaur in 1954 – nearly 6 years before he made his Bollywood debut with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. At the time of their marriage, the ‘Apne’ actor was just 19 years old. The duo – who are still married, went on to have four children, 2 sons – actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and 2 daughters – Vijeta and Ajita. While their sons are now among Bollywood’s most loved stars, their daughters have stayed away from the media limelight .

Dharmendra, Hema Malini and family
After working together for a while, Dharmendra and Hema Malini fell in love and tied the knot in 1980. According to various reports, the actors allegedly converted to Islam to solemnise second marriage, as the veteran actor was still married to his first wife and choose not to divorce her. However, in 2004, Dharmendra dismissed all such reports as mere rumours. Malini and Dharmendra also have two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

Aside from his 2 wives, 6 kids and 13 grandchildren, Dharmendra also has a brother, Ajit Singh Deol, who tried his luck in films too. However, he didn’t achieve the same level of fame and fortune as Dharam Ji. Ajit’s son, Abhay Deol is a well known Bollywood actor who is loved by many. He has appeared in films such as Socha Na Tha, Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! Dev D, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and more.
