At the 98th edition of the Academy Awards, Priyanka Chopra Jonas took the stage alongside Javier Bardem to present one of the night’s top honours. The global star, who attended the ceremony with her husband Nick Jonas, brought glamour and confidence to the Oscars stage. On stage at the Oscars, Javier made a powerful political statement, declaring “No to war” and “Free Palestine,” which drew loud applause from the audience. Priyanka reacted with a smile and a nod, as she acknowledged his remarks. The Indian actor then reflected on the power of cinema and noted that storytelling transcends geographical boundaries. She added that compelling films prove that global stories are never really distant, describing them as “visceral and engrossing.”
The nominations for the Best International Feature Film included The Secret Agent from Brazil, It Was Just an Accident from France, Sentimental Value from Norway, Sirât from Spain and The Voice of Hind Rajab from Tunisia. Interestingly, Sentimental Value from Norway won the Oscar.
This isn’t Priyanka’s first stint at the Oscars as a presenter. She had previously presented at the Oscars in 2016, when she handed the award for Best Film Editing to Margaret Sixel for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road.
This year, Priyanka wore a custom Dior gown inspired by Jonathan Anderson’s couture runway. The ensemble was inspired by one of Jonathan Anderson’s couture looks and featured diaphanous volume paired with a perfectly snatched waist, creating a silhouette that was dramatic yet refined. Nick, on the other hand, complemented Priyanka’s white ensemble with a black velvet tuxedo and trousers. He paired it with a white shirt and a black bowtie.
