Seven years after the emotional goodbye of Toy Story 4, Disney and Pixar have unveiled the first full trailer for Toy Story 5 — and it signals a heartfelt new chapter for the beloved franchise.
Set to arrive in theatres on June 19, the fifth instalment brings back familiar characters while introducing a dilemma rooted in modern childhood. This time, the challenge isn’t a villain or a daring escape — it’s technology.
The trailer opens with Bonnie becoming increasingly absorbed in Lilypad, a frog-themed tablet voiced by Greta Lee. Instead of presenting technology as the enemy, the film appears to explore a more profound question: what place do traditional toys hold in a world dominated by screens?
As Bonnie’s attention shifts away from imaginative play, Woody and Buzz Lightyear must confront their growing sense of irrelevance. The teaser hints at an emotional reunion between the iconic duo, rekindling the bond that has long defined the series. Woody appears with subtle changes — including a poncho and even a tiny bald spot — symbolising the passage of time.
Fan-favourite voices return, with Tom Hanks once again lending warmth to Woody and Tim Allen reprising Buzz Lightyear. Joan Cusack returns as Jessie, joined by beloved characters such as Forky, Slinky Dog, Hamm, and Trixie.
The sequel also expands its universe with new personalities. Craig Robinson voices Atlas, an enthusiastic GPS-inspired hippo, while Shelby Rabara brings life to Snappy, an animated camera toy. Meanwhile, Conan O’Brien lends his voice to Smarty Pants — a quirky toilet-training tech gadget.
Directed and written by Andrew Stanton, known for Finding Nemo and WALL-E, the film focuses less on traditional conflict and more on how digital devices are reshaping childhood itself.
