After over a decade of transforming Indian film music with hit soundtracks, viral songs, and award-winning background scores, celebrated composer Anirudh Ravichander has taken a major step forward in his career with the launch of Albuquerque Records — an artist-owned music label.
This new venture represents a strategic shift from being solely a composer and performer to becoming a music entrepreneur. Albuquerque Records aims to build a diverse catalogue spanning both film music and independent pop releases, while also serving as a platform to nurture emerging talent and promote regional pop culture.
Anirudh first rose to national fame with the viral sensation Why This Kolaveri Di, which marked a turning point in India’s digital music landscape. Since then, he has delivered several chart-topping soundtracks across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, establishing himself as one of the most influential voices in contemporary Indian music.
With Albuquerque Records, Anirudh is looking to expand his creative vision into ownership and long-term brand building. The label will initially release select original soundtracks (OSTs) from his film projects alongside all his independent pop music.
More importantly, the label is designed to provide a structured platform for new artists, focusing on developing original voices and shaping the future of regional pop music in India.
The business and operational leadership of Albuquerque Records will be handled by B Kaushik, who joins as Label Head and Chief Operating Officer. Kaushik brings over 15 years of experience in the South Indian music industry and previously led the pop division at Sony Music India (South). His association with Anirudh dates back to the early days of Kolaveri.
Speaking about the launch, Anirudh described the move as both creative and strategic, highlighting his long-standing interest in independent music even before entering films.
The label’s vision is to combine artistic freedom with business structure — enabling both established and emerging artists to build sustainable careers.
