Ever since its release in 2013, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has achieved a massive cult status among Bollywood fans. From the infectious energy of Bunny and Naina to the relatable journey of friendship and self-discovery, the film continues to be cherished for its dialogues and music. While fans have long been waiting for a second part, Ranbir Kapoor has finally addressed the possibility of a sequel.
The conversation around a potential sequel started being discussed recently when Deepika Padukone, during a fan meet on her birthday, mentioned that she and Ranbir often discuss the idea of collaborating on a romantic comedy again. However, during a live Valentine’s Day Instagram session on his brand’s social media account, Ranbir offered a different perspective on the future of the much-loved movie.
When fans questioned him about sequels to his past hits, specifically Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Ranbir expressed that the story has already reached its natural conclusion. He said, “Lot of you guys want part 2 but there’s so many new movies, new directors, and new ideas to work with. I think Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani had the perfect end. So I don’t think it warrants a part 2.”
Despite ruling out a direct sequel, Ranbir provided a glimmer of hope for fans of the genre. He suggested that while Bunny and Naina’s specific story might be over, he is open to exploring similar themes in the future. He added, “But maybe another film would come, of a similar genre, which you guys would enjoy too.”
Beyond the world of rom-coms, Ranbir shared important updates on his upcoming slate of high-profile projects. He confirmed that the sequel to his fantasy epic, Brahmastra Part Two: Dev, is actively progressing. He revealed, “Brahmastra 2 is in the works, we shall start that movie very soon, sooner than you expect.”
Ranbir also clarified his filming schedule, mentioning that Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1 is slated for a Diwali release this year. This might result in a slight delay for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, which may now move to next year. Ranbir was last seen on the big screen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.
