F1 Sequel Officially Confirmed—But Will Brad Pitt Return to the Driver’s Seat?

After racing to global success in June 2025, F1 is officially gearing up for a sequel. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed the news during the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles, putting months of speculation to rest. While rumors had been circulating for quite some time, this marks the first official statement since the film’s release.

Speaking to the BBC, Bruckheimer revealed, “We’re working on a sequel,” though he remained tight-lipped about the timeline and casting details. Notably, he did not confirm whether Brad Pitt would reprise his role in the follow-up. However, he assured fans that he would “of course” be involved in casting decisions, leaving the door open for possibilities.

The confirmation has sparked excitement among fans, especially considering the film’s impressive performance at the box office both in India and internationally. F1 was lauded for its gripping storyline and high-octane racing sequences, drawing cinema lovers back to theatres for an immersive big-screen experience.

Adding to its achievements, the film has secured four Oscar nominations this year, including a nod for Best Picture. Co-produced by seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, the project stood out for its authenticity and attention to detail. Hamilton’s involvement played a crucial role in ensuring the racing sequences felt realistic and true to the sport.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick, the original F1 featured a stellar ensemble cast including Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Kerry McKenna. Kosinski’s expertise in delivering visually spectacular action sequences significantly elevated the film’s adrenaline-fueled appeal.

Interestingly, Kosinski had previously revealed that he once pitched Ford v Ferrari with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in the lead roles. However, budget constraints derailed that version of the project, and it was later directed by James Mangold with Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Reflecting on the experience, Pitt shared that both he and Cruise were eager to drive in the film, but creative differences about roles ultimately prevented it from moving forward.

As for the F1 sequel, Pitt has expressed openness to returning, saying, “I’m not sure how that’s going to work, but we’ll give it a go. I’d love to.”

With engines revving once again, fans can expect another thrilling ride.
