Kapil Sharma Gets Candid About Depression, Failure And Why His Biopic Can Wait

Kapil Sharma, one of India’s most beloved comedians, has built a career on laughter, relatability, and resilience. From dominating television with his impeccable comic timing to making a mark in films and now hosting a successful Netflix talk show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, Kapil’s journey has been anything but ordinary. Recently, the comedian-turned-actor spoke candidly about one of the darkest phases of his life — his battle with depression at the age of 36.

In an interview with The Times of India, Kapil reflected on the many ups and downs that have shaped him, both personally and professionally. Looking back, he described how every phase of his life came with its own emotional weight. “Every phase had its own charm. Childhood was different. When my father was there, that phase was different. After he passed away in 2004, life went completely off track,” Kapil shared.

The loss of his father deeply affected him, but television eventually offered him a second chance. Kapil found his footing again and rose to massive fame — only to face another setback years later. “Then I got another chance on TV and came back on track. At 36, depression hit me hard and I went completely down. People started saying, ‘He’s finished,’” he revealed.

Kapil admitted that public perception during that time was harsh, but life slowly turned around. Marriage, personal stability, and the return of his show played a crucial role in his recovery. “Then I got married. Then the show came back. Then I did 300+ episodes again,” he said, highlighting how perseverance helped him rebuild his life and career.

Sharing a life lesson from his experiences, Kapil emphasized that uncertainty is the only constant. He believes that continuing to work with honesty and good intentions eventually leads to positive outcomes. “The only certainty in life is uncertainty. You just keep working with good intentions, and good things keep happening,” he added.

Kapil also addressed ongoing rumours about a biopic being made on his life. Clearing the air, he explained that while some producer friends have casually discussed the idea, he doesn’t believe the time is right. “I’ve just begun to understand life properly. What biopic will they make right now? Maybe someday in the future,” he said.

On the work front, Kapil was recently seen in the sequel to his 2015 film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, alongside Manjot Singh, Warina Hussain, Tridha Choudhury, Parul Gulati, and Ayesha Khan. However, the film struggled at the box office due to stiff competition from Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster Dhurandhar.

Despite setbacks, Kapil Sharma’s story remains one of grit, growth, and an unbreakable bond with his audience.
