Boman Irani marked the first anniversary of The Mehta Boys by looking back at the journey of making his directorial debut. On the occasion, the actor, writer and filmmaker shared a special video on social media that offered a glimpse into the quieter, unseen moments from the making of the film.
Instead of revisiting scenes from the Amazon Prime Video drama, the video focuses on behind-the-scenes footage, capturing Irani as he navigates the set in his new role as a director. The montage includes candid interactions with the cast and crew, reflective pauses between takes, and moments that highlight the learning curve of stepping behind the camera after decades as an actor. The video functions as a personal reflection on the experience rather than a celebratory highlight reel.
Alongside the video, Irani wrote in the caption, “It’s been a year since The Mehta Boys found its way into the world. I carried this story for a long time… and the love you’ve shown it has been deeply humbling. To every person who believed in it, and to my wonderful team who helped shape it, thank you for making this journey so special…”

The Mehta Boys marked a significant milestone for Irani, who wore multiple hats on the project as director, co-writer, co-producer and lead actor. The film explores the relationship between a father and son who are compelled to spend 48 hours together following a family loss. Irani played Shiv Mehta, a widowed father grappling with grief, aging, and a strained relationship with his son, portrayed through everyday conflicts and emotional distance rather than overt drama.
The film was rooted in themes of loss, generational differences and unresolved emotions, drawing attention for its restrained storytelling. The Mehta Boys went on to receive positive responses from audiences and critics and later won the Best Feature Film award at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
As Irani reflects on his first year as a director, he is also preparing for a busy phase ahead. The actor is set to begin work on Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 and will be seen in Haiwaan, which stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. He is also part of Ram Charan’s upcoming film Peddi, scheduled for release on April 30.
One year on, The Mehta Boys continues to be a key chapter in Boman Irani’s evolving creative journey, marking his transition from actor to filmmaker.
