The Indian music industry and the fans came across a shocking news on Tuesday evening when Arijit Singh, the voice that has defined Bollywood’s melodies for over a decade, announced his retirement from playback singing. While the news left millions of fans heartbroken, his colleagues from the industry, including Shreya Ghoshal, have come forward to share their support, calling this move as the beginning of a fresh creative journey.
Arijit Singh shared the update through his private X account and later on Instagram, clarifying that while he is stepping away from the microphone as a playback singer, he will continue his musical journey as a composer. He expressed his gratitude to his listeners in a heartfelt note, saying, “I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.”

Reacting to the news, Shreya Ghoshal, who has shared the mic with Arijit on numerous chartbusters, expressed her excitement for his future. Refusing to see this as an ending, she commented, “It’s the start of a new phase of Arijit and I am truly excited to hear, listen and experience what this genius churns out.”
Highlighting his immense talent, Shreya further added, “I can never call this the end of an era. An artist of his calibre can never be defined by traditional means or boxed into a set formula. Time to soar higher, my dear Arijit.”
Other prominent figures in the music industry also shared their thoughts. Singer Armaan Malik shared a nostalgic photograph with Arijit, mentioning that an artist must follow their soul’s calling. He wrote, “The soul knows when it’s time to change direction. What’s being offered no longer feeds its highest calling.” He thanked Arijit for his massive contribution to the craft and expressed trust in the new path the singer is taking.
His brother, composer Amaal Mallik, admitted to feeling lost after hearing the news but extended his full support. Amaal shared, “Film music will never be the same without you, my bro.
