The excitement around Cocktail 2 just got a major boost, as a new report suggests that the much-anticipated sequel is targeting a theatrical release in 2026. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, the film has already been creating strong buzz through behind-the-scenes photos and videos, and the latest update has only heightened fan anticipation.
According to a report by Movie Reviews, the makers are eyeing the third quarter of 2026 for the film’s release. A post shared on X revealed that Cocktail 2 is likely to hit theatres between August and October 2026. The film, directed by Homi Adajania, is currently being shot across both national and international locations, with production said to be progressing at full speed.
Kriti Sanon recently opened up about why she chose to sign the sequel, revealing that the timing felt perfect for her. After working on emotionally intense projects, the actor said she was eager to return to a lighter, youthful space. “Cocktail 2 just happened at the right time. I was craving it. I wanted to go into that really young, urban, fun space of a rom-com,” she shared.
While the film carries the Cocktail title, Kriti clarified that it is more of a “vibe sequel” rather than a direct continuation. She explained that the story, characters and their backstories are entirely different, even though the core essence remains intact. Apart from the vibe, the constants include Maddock Films and director Homi Adajania, both of whom were part of the original 2012 hit.
Adding to the excitement, fun BTS clips from the sets have surfaced online. In one video, Shahid and Rashmika are seen strolling down a street, chatting casually with Kriti walking alongside them. Another clip shows Kriti and Rashmika dancing together to a tune reminiscent of Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, instantly evoking nostalgia for fans of the original film.
Kriti also revealed that two major shooting schedules have already been completed, with the third set to begin soon in Mumbai. She teased that Cocktail 2 will feature standout music and visually striking styling, handled by Anaita Shroff Adajania. Excited about her transformation, Kriti shared that she will look completely different from her previous roles.
Speaking about reuniting with Shahid Kapoor after Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Kriti joked, “Yes, but I’m finally a human,” playfully referencing her robotic role in their earlier film. With fresh chemistry, vibrant music and a contemporary take on relationships, Cocktail 2 is shaping up to be one of the most awaited rom-coms of 2026.
