The first look at Crime 101 teases what could be the first big-screen must-see of 2026: an action-packed heist movie with plenty of twists and serious star power courtesy of Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry.
Featuring the convergence of a cop, criminal, and citizen’s stories in a Los Angeles-based game of cat and mouse, the synopsis calls to mind director Michael Mann’s 2004 crime thriller Collateral starring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise:

“Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, Crime 101 weaves the tale of an elusive jewel thief (Hemsworth) whose string of heists along the 101 freeway have mystified police,” the synopsis reads. “When he eyes the score of a lifetime, his path crosses that of a disillusioned insurance broker (Berry) who is facing her own crossroads. Convinced he has found a pattern, a relentless detective (Ruffalo) is closing in, raising the stakes even higher. As the heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are faced with life-defining choices–and the realization that there can be no turning back.”
The featurette sets that story up well, with Hemsworth adding, “Something shot like this was designed for the big screen. You’re constantly stimulated by it. The stakes are incredibly high, but there’s an honesty to it that is thought-provoking.”
The film, which is adapted from Don Winslow’s acclaimed novella of the same name, is written and directed by Bart Layton (American Animals, The Imposter). Arriving in theaters February 13, the cast also stars Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte.
