Matt and Ross Duffer have chosen four episodes out of 34 (via The Hollywood Reporter) that will be most pivotal to final season.
- Season 2, Episode 4: “Will the Wise”
- Season 2, Episode 6: “The Spy”
- Season 4, Episode 7: “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab”
- Season 4, Episode 9: “The Piggyback”
“Season two is when we really started to build out the mythology and started to dive into everything, and how this was going to be an ongoing [series]. That’s where we started to really plant the seeds for the mythology, and I think probably that’s why that is as relevant as it is,” Matt told the outlet. “Season four is also highly relevant — ‘Massacre at Hawkins Lab’ is a good one.”
While the creators have been teasing how “full circle” the final season will come in relation to the first season of the show, it wasn’t until season 2 that they actually knew they would be making a fully fleshed out show rather than just a one-off.
Fans have long been theorizing about season 2′s importance. Funnily enough, many felt that season 3 was more of a “filler” season, so it is also sensible that it’s not as integral to revisit right now.
The two chosen season 4 episodes delve heavily into Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) and Henry Creel/Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) backstories, which will be vital to the last season.
Here’s everything you need to know about what day and time the fifth season will stream.
